Happy Sunday!
As you know, I take Sundays off from blogging. This allows me to be able to focus on worshipping God and spending time with my family. These Sunday devotionals and book reviews are pre-scheduled. Join me in this quick devotional on Psalms!
A True Super-book
I don’t know about you, but the book of Psalms has helped me through a bunch of hard and joyful times in my life. It is both encouraging and challenging. It really and truly is a SUPERBOOK.
Psalms not only has encouraging and uplifting songs, but also exhortation and promises, along with darker aspects such as sin and consequences of that sin. Not to mention, there are prophesies woven into the book as well!
So many times, we turn to “self-help books” or motivational speakers to encourage or “uplift” us. How many times do we turn to the Word of God to do that? Especially when we really do have the ultimate “self-help” book in the palm of our hands!!!
I have been recently going through the book of Psalms and it has been such a blessing to be able to see God’s heart intertwined into the book. His goodness, His power, His faithfulness and Holiness.
I love how the book starts out with a promise…
Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.” Psalms 1:1-3
“LORD, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him.” But you, LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.” Psalm 3:1-3
“Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. Selah. Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, And put your trust in the LORD.” Psalm 4:4-5
And Prayers…
…”But as for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy;
In fear of You I will worship toward Your holy temple. Lead me, O LORD, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; Make Your way straight before my face.” Psalms 5:7-8
“O LORD, our Lord,How excellent is Your name in all the earth!” Psalm 8:9
